FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 6, 2010
New Book on Mental Slavery
Author shows how thinking is hijacked by parts of the mind,
and what to do about it.
Canon City, Colorado, May 6, 2010 -- Just published by Webhiker
LLC, the book Beyond Mental Slavery examines how
people fall under the spell of various mental processes that
direct their thinking and decision making. Examples from science,
business, the arts, and life in general are used to make the
process clear. The reader is given simple solutions for improving
the clarity and effectiveness of his or her thinking.
Steve Gillman, the author, claims that people's minds are
enslaved by various hidden "masters" more often than
they realize. Unconscious reactive programs determine many thoughts
and decisions. Quick rationalizations provide obvious but untrue
"reasons" for beliefs and actions, biases prevent the
objective examination of new ideas, and desires motivate arguments
rather than a search for truth.
Research, stories and examples that the reader can verify
from experience are used throughout the book to demonstrate how
easy it is to be ordered around by and misguided by various thought
processes. Corrective actions or "escape plans" are
laid out at the end of each chapter. The author calls the book,
"a how-to guide for clearer, more powerful, and more useful
thinking."
Gillman's previous book, Secrets of Lucky People, touched
on some similar themes. In that book he looked at the mental
processes and habits of those who are believed to have more good
fortune in life. The differences between how such people think
and act, versus less-lucky individuals, were used as the basis
for exercises designed to help the reader become luckier.
Beyond Mental Slavery is available right now
